How can I turn my own shower into a sauna with the Hearth® Infrared Sauna Panel?Updated 19 days ago

Using your shower as a sauna is achievable with our Hearth® Infrared Sauna Panel and your own components. You can order separate components like our Sauna Pedestal or Sauna Stool or our Shower Converter Curtain. 

You can provide your own seating, though it may have material issues due to heating. We do recommend our hypoallergenic stool for this reason. The pedestal is for the panel to stand on, while the stool is for the user. Most who want to set up their own shower will purchase the Shower Converter Bundle or at least the pedestal and Hearth®.

A FEW METHODS OF USE

• Insure the minimum 18 inch clearance from lamp guards to the user (usage range is 18-30 in or 46-76 cm), and 
• Have your Panel as close to trunk height (the top of the top guard just under your chin) as possible. Your trunk is the seat of your major organs and the seat of your main toxic load.
• Place the panel on existing seating in your shower (built-in ledge or stoop), you sit on the stool perform the protocol: 1/4-turn every 7-10 minutes. This can be problematic for height adjustment, our stool is 19 inches tall.
• Use our Pedestal to stand your Panel on while you sit on the stool- this is the easiest, turn key way to have your Panel at the proper height for most people. 
• Our Panels have carrying handles built into the back that do support their own weight. You can properly anchor a hook and hang the panel, you sit on the stool.

Note: The power cord that comes with the Hearth® Infrared Sauna Panel is 15 ft (4.6 m) long, and can be used with an extension cord. The Panel itself is an electrical device, so do NOT use the components in damp, wet, or humid environments. All of the materials we build with are fully untreated. All panels are designed to be used vertically, so do NOT Place upside down or Horizontal.

WHAT ABOUT THE MATERIALS IN MY ENVIRONMENT REACTING TO HEAT?

It is important to take into account the materials in the area you are creating- fiberglass, glass, stone and ceramic tile walled shower materials are very inert, so they don’t exhibit significant outgassing issues. Heating is not suitable for plastic panel or plastic tile enclosures as these have outgassing issues. SaunaSpace® can not speak to what happens to materials we do not use to create our Sauna solutions. You have to reach out to the specific manufacturer for understanding of effects to their materials. 

WHAT ABOUT THE GAP IN THE TOP OF MY SHOWER, DO I NEED TO COVER THAT?

It may be in your best interest to 'cap' the gap occurring in the top of your sauna. You can have the shower 'stall' itself to hold the ambient air temperature instead of heating the whole room! Some customers utilize the in Shower Converter Curtain as a turnkey option to do just this. More information below.

WHAT ABOUT THE HEATING OF MY AREA, DO I NEED IT HOT IN THERE?

If the ambient air is at or less than body temperature, the hyperthermic effect of the sauna is reduced significantly as the cooler air around the user constantly cools the body...as long as you can provide a consistent ambient air temperature between 100-120°F (38-49°C) you do not have to supplement heating the air around you.
