Many people assume that a sauna must reach 170-190°F to be effective. That’s true for many traditional saunas, which rely primarily on heating the surrounding air to gradually warm the body.
The FireLight® Sauna works differently.
Rather than depending primarily on hot air, it uses our proprietary FireLight® Spectrum, rich in deeply penetrating near-infrared (NIR) light, to deliver radiant heat directly to your body. The air is warmed as well, but the light, not the air, is the primary heat source.
And yes, you absolutely sweat 💧
The important question is not “how hot is the air?"
It's “does the sauna produce the same physiological response?”
That’s what matters.
The goal of any effective sauna session is to elevate your core body temperature and stimulate a healthy sweat response. The FireLight® Sauna is designed to raise your core body temperature by approximately 2-3 °F (1.1-1.7 °C) while helping you sweat out roughly 1 lb (0.5 kg) of water during a session, benchmarks commonly used to describe an effective sauna session.
Because your body is heated directly through radiant infrared energy, the surrounding air doesn’t need to reach the extreme temperatures required by conventional saunas.
Typical air temperatures are:
- FireLight® Classic Sauna (4 Bulbs): 110-130 °F (43-54 °C)
- FireLight® SuperSauna (7 Bulbs): 130-150 °F (54-66 °C)
This direct heating approach also offers several practical advantages:
- No preheating required: the bulbs begin delivering therapeutic radiant heat immediately.
- Shorter sessions: approximately 20–30 minutes for the Classic Sauna and 10–20 minutes for the SuperSauna.
- A more comfortable environment: many people appreciate achieving an effective sweat without sitting in extremely hot air.
In other words, our goal isn’t to maximize air temperature. It’s to efficiently create the physiological response that makes sauna bathing effective.
