What do I need to know to install a Shower Conversion Kit?Updated 2 months ago
The Shower Sauna Conversion Kit contains everything you need to transform your shower into a spa-like retreat. Convert your shower in minutes and stow away the parts when not used. The Shower Curtain snaps to 1 Rod and drapes over the other to create a "ceiling & front wall", which works with the full bath's 2 sides and rear wall and floor to create a sauna enclosure.
What's Included
- 1x Hearth® Quartet
- 1x Hearth® Pedestal
- 1x Sauna Stool
- 1x Shower Curtain
- 2x Shower Tension Rods
Installation Requirements
It can be installed in most full bath stalls (60 in width x 30 in depth), and requires minimum 41 inches of floor length: 9 inches Hearth® depth + 18 inches clearance from lamp face to user’s seated torso + 14 inches for stool footprint.
It cannot be used in three-quarter-size showers that have less than 41 inches of floor length due to insufficient clearance.
Shower Curtain width covers a standard full bath from left to right, and the Curtain height is long enough to cover the top of bath and to create a front wall.
- Curtain width: 65 in (165 cm)
- Curtain height: 102 in (259 cm)
- Rod length: 40–72 in (102–183 cm)
The Rods are installed at about 60 inch or less height at front and rear of the bath, spanning the 60 inch width.
What about existing bath materials reacting to heat?
It is important to take into account the materials in the area you are using. Recommended for use in stone, porcelain or fiberglass shower enclosures, as these materials are considered to be inert. Not recommended for use in plastic (PVC) shower stalls. Painted surfaces may also be an issue. SaunaSpace® can not speak to what happens to materials we do not use. You have to reach out to the specific manufacturer for understanding of effects to their materials.
How hot does it need to be inside the Shower Sauna?
Ambient air temperature must be above 100 °F (37.8 °C) during a sauna session. If the volume is large, a space heater can be used to help achieve the ambient temperature air requirement. Some ventilation is OK, as long as you can maintain the air temperature.
Are the Shower Sauna Components waterproof?
NO, the Shower Converter components (Hearth®, Pedestal, Stool and Curtain) can not get wet and must be removed from bathroom prior to using the shower/bath for bathing. Removing the components only takes a few moments.
What if my shower has metal/glass sliding doors?
The Shower Curtain snaps to the rear Curtain Tension Rod and drapes over the front Rod and covers the front of the bath, either inside or outside of the existing shower door. It is important to have your shower fully enclosed.
Do I need an enclosure for effective sauna therapy?
An enclosure is required for full body sweating. You need an ambient air temperature between 100-120°F (38-49°C) to facilitate sweating, this is the reason for the enclosure. The FireLight® Sauna Enclosure is the ideal enclosure, both spacious inside and space-saving, and includes the Bamboo Grounding Mat for earthing therapy and the optional SilverLining™ for a totally EMF-shielded experience.
Customers who do purchase the Shower Converter usually do so because of space restraints (efficiency apartments, rented rooms, etc.). Most customers choose our full saunas!
